The Rockets dominated from start to finish with a 7-0 record to capture the Richmond Invitational midget tier 1 tourney over the Christmas break.
Kelowna secured the title with a 4-1 win over Delta Hockey Academy in the final.
Tournament MVP Kobe Oishi led the Rockets’ attack with with nine goals and an assist, while linemate Adam Beatty added goal and eight assists.
The line of Tanner Campbell (4 goals, 6 assists), Braeden Cyra (5 goals, 5 assists) and Austin Lindsay (3 goals, 6 assists) was dangerous throughout the tournament and combined for 29 points.
The goaltending duo of Chris Turner (.75 GAA) and Sam Bobyn (1.33 GAA) provided solid, and at times, stellar goaltending back stopping the team.
The Rockets beat Abbotsford 4-1, Alaska U18 AllStars 5-0, Seafair 4-2 and Prince George 5-1 in round robin play. The Rockets defeated Penticton Vees 7-1 in the quarter finals, then Prince George 5-1 in the semi before besting Delta in the final.
Next week, the Rockets will face their biggest tournament test of the season when they host the Kelowna International Elite Midget Tournament, Jan. 9 to 13 at Memorial and Rutland Arenas.
The Rockets open the tournament Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7:15 p.m. against Compete Hockey Academy Rams from Idaho.
