Midget stay perfect in tiering play

Oceanside rep hockey team returns home this weekend with 3-0 record in VIHL placement games

Duncan Cairns and Christian Stokes scored two goals each as the Oceanside Generals rep midget hockey team improved to 3-0 in tiering play with a 5-4 win over Comox Oct. 2 at Oceanside Place Arena.

Coming off a Thanksgiving weekend tournament in Salmon Arm, the midgets are back in Howie Meeker Arena Saturday to host Nanaimo at 4:30 p.m., then close out the five-game tiering round Sunday in Victoria.

The tiering games are used to place teams in competitive divisions for the 2016-17 regular season, which starts Oct. 28.

 

Rep bantams

The Generals bantams were also home going into the long weekend, but struggled in an 11-2 loss to the Victoria Racquet Club Oct. 2.

That left the bantams with an 0-2-1 tiering record. The Generals will wrap up tiering with back-to-back home games this weekend, hosting Juan de Fuca Saturday at 2:15 p.m. and Nanaimo Sunday at 5:15 p.m.

 

Rep peewees

The Generals peewees clawed out a 6-5 win over Juan de Fuca during the Oct. 2

triple header at Oceanside Place to improve to 1-3 in placement games. The victory followed a 6-2 loss to Saanich on the road one day earlier.

The peewees play two road games this weekend, in Victoria Saturday and  at Powell River Sunday.

 

Atom development

The Generals atom development team will drop the puck on its season Saturday, Oct.15 with an exhibition game against Nanaimo Sunday at noon at Howie Meeker Arena. The team will begin its own tiering round of games the following week, with another home date against Nanaimo.
