Midget ’Tips secure second

The Salmon Arm Honda Midget Tier 2 Silvertips landed second place in their league this past weekend.

The Salmon Arm Honda Midget Tier 2 Silvertips landed second place in their league this past weekend.

This Silvertips travelled to Penticton for two games, the first Saturday against first- place Penticton.

It was clear the ’Tips left their playing abilities back at home as Penticton rode over Salmon Arm in a 9-0 blowout. The only good thing about the game was its ability to refocus the team for the next day’s game against Okanagan Hockey Academy.

The morning after establishing a new pizza- eating record at Penticton’s Boston Pizza, the Silvertips served up six unanswered goals over a scoreless OHA squad.

Of note during the game was a strong offensive play by Levi Chamberlain, Dylan Larson, and Alex Fournier, combining for 10 points.

On the defensive end, there was strong play by goalie Blake Puetz and defencemen Zane Perry, Brayden Hislop, Cam Olson, Darien Head and Jason Klassen. Head, Olson and Perry each tallied a goal in the effort. That concludes league play for the Midget Tier 2 team and lands them solidly in second place with 10 wins, five ties and three losses. Playoffs start this weekend with Vernon the opponent in the first round.

Atom ’Tips down Kelowna

Salmon Arm L. Turner Contracting Atom Silvertips came up strong Saturday evening in Rutland against Kelowna #2. The Silvertips had a great game and defeated Kelowna 5-2. Goals were scored by Marino Bordin, Brayden Haskell assisted by Blake McBeth, Cole Nisse and Jackson Mayes.

Early Sunday morning the ’Tips faced Kamloops at Hucul Pond. Maybe due to lack of sleep, the ’Tips had a very weak first half of the game, down 5-0.

The team seemed to wake up in the second half of the game and were able to score two goals, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. The ’Tips lost to Kamloops 7-2, with the only two goals for Salmon Arm scored by Joshua Olson and Jackson Mayes.

Atom Saints take rivals

The Salmon Arm Fix Auto Atom Saints defeated their rivals the Salmon Arm Grizzlies in Atom recreational hockey action this past weekend, in a game that featured schoolmate pitted against schoolmate.

The Grizzlies took the first period, outscoring the Saints 2-1 on goals from Mason Balon and Isaac Webster. The lone goal for the Saints was the result of Caden Sherman driving hard through the D and getting a good low shot on net, with Connor Kociuba depositing the rebound.

The second period saw the Saints slowly take over the game, outscoring the Grizzlies 4-1.

The lone goal for the Grizzlies came from Damian Earl who cut loose on the breakaway and got one up high past the Saints’ netminder. Sherman continued his strong play in the second, again driving hard to the net and setting up Zander Stewart. Matt Campbell went end-to-end before tucking in a sweet backhand and Dominic Barbosa had a pair for the Saints, including one on the power play.

The third period was all Saints, Trent Poroznuk scoring twice and Campbell with another pair to round out the hat trick, resulting in a 9-3 final.

The Saints have a pair of games at home this weekend, versus Vernon on Saturday and Lumby on Sunday.
