Cold and windy conditions on the weekend of the first set of Shames Mountain Ski and Snowboard Club’s annual Mini Races deterred competitors, but eight determined kids still came out and raced Saturday, Jan. 3.
On Saturday, the fastest time went to Charles-Emile Guay with a time of 15.88 seconds, with Thayna Healey clocking the fastest time for the girls at 19.59 seconds.
On Sunday, only two competitors had registered before the hill was closed down due to high winds.
The Mini Races are free races open to all skiers and snowboarders who want to come out and participate in a fun race series.
It’s a six race series with a champion named for each category at the end of the season during the club’s year end banquet.
Senior athletes were in Smithers last weekend for the Face Off event there, and Kitimat will be holding the annual Kitimat Rail Jam, a downtown event Friday, Jan. 23 in the evening – a great spectator event.
