Dennis McDonald was in his element Friday afternoon, kiteboarding and grabbing some air along with some big time dunks in the brine off the shores of Columbia Beach.
Winds were gusting from 12-13 knots that day — not nearly the pop of the forecasted 18-20 knots boarders are looking for, “but it got me out there. I love it.”
The 43-year-old married father of two boys from Parksville picked up the sport two years ago and said he gets out “whenever I can,” adding “it’s been a weird year for wind. Most of the time what they’ve been forecasting has been way off…”
He said April is usually the windiest month.
