The title run is officially over for the Mission Cedar Kings.
The West Central Senior C Lacrosse League club was swept 2-0 by the Ridge Attack in round one of the playoffs, putting an end to the playoffs for the local team.
Mission opened the best-of-three series on July 15, falling 8-4 to the Attack in Pitt Meadows.
The Cedar Kings trailed 2-1 after one and 4-2 after two, never managing to climb back into the game.
Gavan Sand (two goals, one assist) and Russ Heard (two goals, one assist) were the top performers for Mission, with Wylan Malowany adding a pair of helpers. Owen Munro and John Makowsky also added assists. Goalie Jeff Lissimore stopped 37 shots in the loss.
Game two was more of the same for Mission, as the Attack jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one and led 8-2 after two, en route to an 11-7 win. That result eliminated Mission from the playoffs.
Heard and Brenton Graham scored two each, with Tony Corbin, Munro and Makowksy all adding singles.
The Attack were then swept 2-0 by the Port Coquitlam Hitmen in round two, with the Port Moody Express sweeping the Ladner Pioneers 2-0 in the other semifinal series. The Express and the Hitmen were the first and second overall teams in WCSCLL regular season action. The 2019 champion will be crowned later this month.
The Cedar Kings also announced that they will not be participating in the Alcan Cup Canadian Senior Invitational Lacrosse Championship this year. It marks the first time in several years that the Mission squad will not be competing at the Prince George event.
The series elimination ends a season that saw Mission finish sixth overall, and post a record of 7-6-1. The Cedar Kings started off the season red hot, winning five to open the season but then stumbled down the stretch losing four of the club’s final five games to drop in the standings.
