Mission Cedar Kings split pair of June games

Mission lacrosse club sits tied for third overall in league standings

The Mission Cedar Kings fell behind early to the Coquitlam Cobras on Saturday and couldn’t battle back, losing 9-5 in Port Coquitlam.

It’s just the second regulation loss in West Central Senior C Lacrosse League action for the Kings this season.

Mission trailed 5-2 after one period, and failed to make up any ground against the Cobras as the teams traded goals for the remainder of the game.

Mission’s Zach McMinn scored a hat trick, with Mitch Cavallarin also having a three-point night (one goal, two assists). Cody Thompson also collected two points (one goal, one assist). Gavan Sand, John Makowsky and Owen Munro all recorded assists, and goalie Jeff Lissimore made 40 saves in a losing cause.

The loss comes off an 8-7 win over the North Shore Indians on June 8.

Sand and Russ Heard were the stars of that victory, as Sand scored three goals and two assists, while Heard scored once and added an incredible six helpers. Brandon Goff (two), Thompson and Makowsky scored the other goals for Mission. Wylan Malowany, Brian McAdie, Josh Kaiser and Zach Jones all picked up one assist. Lissimore stopped 42 shots for the win.

The two teams were tied at two after one and tied at five after two, and Mission eventually scored the game winner. For more, visit wcsll.teamopolis.com.
