Mission’s Trase Recksy has returned from Calgary with a little more hardware.
The 16-year-old goaltender helped Team B.C. earn a bronze medal at the 2018 National Midget Boys Lacrosse tournament, which ran in the Alberta city from Aug. 12 to 18.
Recksy appeared in four games at the event, picking up two wins and one loss and allowing just 15 goals overall.
He backstopped B.C. to a 10-1 win over Nova Scotia on Aug. 16 and also picked up a 17-3 win over Manitoba on Aug. 13. Recksy was tagged with a loss in B.C.’s 7-3 defeat to Ontario on Aug. 14.
B.C. opened the event with wins over First Nations (8-4) and Manitoba (17-3) on Aug. 13, a loss to Ontario (7-3) and a win over Saskatchewan (10-2) on Aug. 14, a loss to Alberta (5-4) on Aug. 15 and a victory over Nova Scotia (10-1) to conclude round-robin play.
The team then lost 8-4 to Alberta on Aug. 17 to move on to the bronze-medal game, where they again beat Nova Scotia 10-1.
It’s the third time that Recsky has been chosen to go to the nationals with Team B.C. He previously attended the event for both the Pee Wee and Bantam squads.
In other Mission Lacrosse Club news, girls field lacrosse interest continues to grow.
Last year the Mission Mud Dawgs had its first all-female field lacrosse team, which won gold at the U15 provincials in Langley. MLC officials said this year there could be a U12 team, as well as two U15 clubs competing.
