The Mission City Outlaws season ended two periods early thanks to Mother Nature on Saturday.
The Outlaws hosted the Abbotsford Pilots for both teams’ final game of the season at the Mission Leisure Centre, but power was lost early in the first period and the game was postponed and then cancelled.
Mission held a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds into the game when the power outage took over.
With the playoffs looming and the game not impacting the standings, the Pacific Junior Hockey League decided not to replay the game and made it official later that night.
The cancellation comes on the heels of the Outlaws posting a 7-4 win over the White Rock Whalers at the MLC on Friday.
Mission exploded for five goals in the third period to earn the victory.
Outlaws forward Andrew Fishwick scored the lone goal of the first period, with the teams trading goals in the second and heading into the third period tied at two. Outlaws affiliate player Kade Padgham scored his first career PJHL in the second for Mission.
The third period was where the Outlaws shone, as the club got goals from Tristan Takats, Zachary Valana, Justin Hargrave, Jordan Shaw and Chase Newman.
Mission forward Kyle Mooney, playing his final game of junior hockey, collected four assists. Newman (three), Griffin Abbott, Dawson Campbell, Shaw, Fishwick and Valana all recorded multi-point games against the Whalers.
Outlaws goalie Isaac Elias made 32 saves to record his sixth win on the season.
Mooney, a Mission native, finished his last season as the Outlaws’ top scorer with 39 points. Hargrave added 31 points, while rookies Newman and Takats, as well as veteran Campbell, each had 21 points.
Mission finished the season with a record of 13-27-3, good for 29 points. They finished fifth in the Harold Brittain conference and 11th overall in the league.
This year marked the second consecutive season that the Outlaws failed to make the playoffs. Mooney is the lone player aging out of the team, as all other current players are eligible to play at least one more year of junior hockey.
