Mission Roadrunners blanked by Seaquam at home

Senior varsity football team drops 2-0, juniors finish exhibition undefeated

The Mission Secondary Roadrunners senior varsity football team was blanked 33-0 by the Seaquam Seahawks on home field on Friday, dropping the team’s record to 0-2 in AAA action.

Mission had no answer for the Seahawks offence, specifically the running games, which saw the visitors gain over 200 yards on the ground.

Seaquam was led by running back Christian Carlon-Diaz, who ate the Roadrunners up with 165 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The Seahawks also collected 101 yards passing and threw for one major.

Mission had a decent day on the ground, picking up 124 yards rushing. Running back Matt Roadhouse led the way with 45 yards.

Defensively, Trace Recsky and Matt White had a team-high four tackles each.

The Roadrunners remain tied for sixth in the AAA’s Eastern Conference at 0-2.

Mission next hosts Centennial (0-2) at the Mission Sports Field Turf on Friday. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Mission Roadrunners junior varsity team concluded its exhibition run with a 22-12 win over Duchess Park in Mission on Saturday.

The juniors were a perfect 3-0 in exhibition play, posting wins over W. J. Mouat (32-12) on Sept. 19 and beating Robert Bateman 30-20 on Sept. 11.

The juniors opened the regular season on Thursday against Centennial, but results were not available at press time.
