The Mission Roadrunners senior girls volleyball team has returned to the court, and had a solid showing at the Mizuno Classic High School Tournament at UBC over the weekend.
The Roadrunners, slotted in pool D during the round robin, opened with a 2-1 win (25-23, 23-25 and 16-14) over Oak Bay and then lost 2-0 (20-25 and 23-25) to Pinetree. Mission closed off the round robin with a close 2-1 loss (23-25, 26-24 and 11-15) to Crofton.
Mission then rolled off four straight victories in the Blue (consolation) division to win that division title. The team earned a plaque for its efforts.
The girls head to Nanaimo for the Dover Bay Classic tournament this weekend, and then opened league play against Langley in Sardis on Thursday. Results from that game were not available at press time.
Both the senior girls and the senior boys Roadrunners teams are home for a doubleheader on Sept. 26, with the boys tipping off at 6 p.m. and the girls squaring off against Yale starting at 7:30 p.m.
The senior girls are aiming to build off an honourable mention finish at last year’s AAAA provincial championships.
