With the B.C. high school regular season wrapping up this weekend, the Mission Roadrunners senior varsity football team closes out the regular season schedule with a tall task – trying to take down the top-ranked St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights.
The Roadrunners sit in sixth place in the AAA’s Eastern Conference with a record of two wins and four losses, and are currently in the playoff picture, but things could change after this weekend.
The top six teams in the east are guaranteed playoff spots, with the seventh place team from either the east or the west also qualifying for the postseason.
Mission didn’t do themselves any favours on Friday, with a 31-26 loss to the Kelowna Owls in Kelowna. The Roadrunners were up by four early into the second half, but the Owls roared back to score 14 unanswered points and seal the win.
The Roadrunners next host the undefeated Knights on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Final playoff seeding will be determined this weekend.
The Roadrunners junior varsity team returned to action by hosting the Knights on Thursday afternoon, but results were not available at press time. The winner of that game will head to the junior varsity AAA playoffs, with the losing team’s season wrapping up. Read next week’s edition of the Mission City Record for playoff details.
