The Mission Tennis Club held its annual year-end tournament over the last two weekends.
The men’s and women’s doubles championships was held Aug. 26 in the Great West bubble.
In the men’s doubles the veteran team of Ted Bryde and Jeff Waite took on Cameron VanOort and Eric Rex. The match went three sets and came down to the wire with VanOort and Rex winning the title by the score of 3-6 6-0 6-4.
The woman’s doubles was also competitive with perennial champs Val Gervais and Jane Thorup taking on Anne Marie Haily and Betty Bowes. Haily and Bowes played error free to win the title by the score of 6-3 6-3.
The mixed doubles was played on Saturday, Sept. 2 under sunny skies. There was a large field with 25 round robin matches played before the final two teams were decided.
The final had Mark and Val Gervais take on the mother and son team of Anne-Marie and Eric Rex.
The Gervais team won the first set 7-5 only to have the Rexs storm back to win the next two sets, and the title, 6-0 6-2.
The men’s and women’s singles was played on Sept. 3 The woman’s singles had Terry Johnston battle Ashley Laine. Johnson won the title by the score of 6-3 6-2.
The men’s singles had a large field with many long battles in the round robin play. In the semifinals Brandon Wood defeated Eric Rex in a pro set 8-2 and Pierre Robinson defeated Shannon Young 8-2. That set up the final between Wood and Robinson. Perennial champ Wood prevailed to win the title with a score of 6-4 5-7 6-2.
Club play will continue through September weather permitting.
