Mission’s Abram Wiebe has committed to the British Columbia Hockey League’s Chilliwack Chiefs for the 2020-21 season.
Wiebe spent the past two seasons with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the B.C. Major Midget League, and collected 34 points (five goals, 29 assists) in 39 games in 2019-20. The six-foot-one defender also had 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) in 29 games with the Thunderbirds minor midget program in 2018-19.

He also suited up for the Chiefs three time this season as an affiliate player in BCHL action, impressing the Chilliwack coaching staff.
“We are really happy that Abram and his family have made the decision to continue his development within the Chiefs organization,” stated Chiefs associate coach Brad Rihela. “Abram is a hard-working young man that comes from a great family and will be sure to fit in seamlessly with the culture we are creating here in Chilliwack.”

Wiebe and the Thunderbirds finished fourth in the BCMML during the regular season with a record of 28-9-1-2. The league’s postseason was unable to begin due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He joins a Chiefs team that finished second in the BCHL’s Mainland division in 2019-20 with a record of 26-21-5-6. The Chiefs were then eliminated in the first round of the BCHL playoffs by the Surrey Eagles 4-3.
The BCHL playoffs were cancelled on March 12 before the second round of the playoffs could begin due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league posted an update on March 27 stating that it hopes to move ahead and return to action for the 2020-21 season. The BCHL typically begins its regular season in September.
