The UFV Cascades women’s golf team had a solid start to the 2017 season, and a pair of Mission golfers were a big reason why.
The team finished third overall at the Olympic College Invitational in Bremerton, Wash. in late March, with Mission’s Hannah Dirksen finishing fifth. Mission’s Jennifer Kell also fared well at the event, placing 11th overall.
The UFV women’s squad took a three-stroke lead into the final round after a combined 265 on March 23, but saw their score balloon to 279 on March 24 and fell to third behind Southwest Oregon and Olympic.
Dirksen, who was the defending women’s champion at the event, shot a 94 and an 81 – nine strokes back of winner Alex Ferrier of Skagit Valley College. Kell shot an 89 and 103, finishing in the top half of the field.
The next big event for Dirksen, Dell and the women’s gold team is the Canadian University/College Championship, which runs from May 29 to June 1 in Barrie, Ont.
