Mission’s Harrison Trustham continued his excellent 2019 season in the world of track and field at the recent National Legion Track and Field Championships in Nova Scotia earlier this month.
Trustham, who trains with the Langley Mustangs track and field club, competed in the men’s U18 110 metres hurdles at the event and qualified for the final heat with the fourth fastest time in the preliminaries He blazed through the course in 15.13 seconds.
That time slotted him in the final, where he earned the bronze medal and finished third overall. Trustham hit a time of 15.02 seconds in the final, finishing behind Alberta’s Ryan Wrighr (14.59 seconds) and Ontario’s David Adeleye (14.45 seconds).
The Mission Secondary student also competed in the men’s U18 400m hurdles, where he finished eighth overall. His time of 58.13 seconds placed him right in the middle of the field.
Trustham is entering Grade 12 at Mission Secondary in the fall, and earned bronze medals in both the senior men’s 110m and 400m hurdles events at the B.C. high school track and field championships back in June. He will be one of the heavy favourites to medal in both events in 2020. Prior to the provincials, Trustham earned a silver medal at the Fraser Valley regionals in Langley in May. Back in April he also won gold in the 110m hurdles at the Vaisakhi Track and Field Meet in Abbotsford.
The National Legion Track and Field Championships, which ran this year from Aug. 9 to 11 at Cape Breton University, has run every year since 1975 and is regarded as one of the best youth track events, with many former participants competing at international and Olympic events.
