Mixed results for Pilots

Abbotsford wins big in Surrey, loses 7-1 at home

It was an up-and-down week for the Abbotsford Pilots.

The good: They thumped the Surrey Knights 11-0 away from home on Thursday.

The bad: They received a 7-1 drubbing from the North Vancouver Wolf Pack at MSA Arena on Friday.

Thursday’s game saw Abbotsford score five goals in each of the first and second periods and add one in the final frame to cruise to the big victory.

Jacob De Waal (three), Jayden Castle, Sean McCracken (two), Cameron Obcena, Cameron Judson, Mason Smith, Baylee Wright and Brady Morton all tallied for Abbotsford.

Wright (five), De Waal (four), Smith (three), McCracken (three), Obcena (three), Alexander Beechey (two) and Tyler Wickman (two) all racked up multi-point nights.

Pilots goalie Keaton Dyck stopped all 17 shots he faced for the shutout win.

It was the complete opposite on Friday, when De Waal opened the scoring at 7:39 of the first period, and the Wolf Pack took over by scoring seven unanswered goals for the remainder of the game.

North Vancouver was lethal on the power play, connecting six times on nine opportunities. Dyck was yanked after allowing six goals on 31 shots, and back-up Daniel Zuvic allowed one goal on seven shots.

The Pilots have now tumbled into third place in the Harold Brittain conference, with a record of 8-5-1. They rank sixth overall in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

The team next hosts the Aldergrove Kodiaks on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
