It might be the win that gets John Morris going at the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Ottawa.
Morris, battling a sore neck, came from behind to get into the win column at the Roar, downing Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher 7-6.
Both rinks are 1-2.
Things didn’t look good early as Morris and his Vernon rink of Jim Cotter, Catlin Schneider and Tyrel Griffith fell behind 5-2 after four ends.
Cue the comeback.
Morris scored a deuce in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, then stole three in the eighth end, the TSN turning point, to grab a 7-5 lead.
Bottcher picked up a single point in nine and Morris held on for the win.
Calgary’s Kevin Koe was atop the standings following play Tuesday at 5-0. The top three rinks in the nine-team field make the playoffs on the weekend.
Morris takes on Winnipeg’s Reid Carruthers (2-3) Wednesday night. Carruthers fell 9-5 to Brad Gushue of St. John’s (3-2) Tuesday night.
