The Campbell River Motocross Association is hosting rounds one and two of the CMRC Vancouver Island Spring Series on April 23 and 24.

The motocross track is located on Highway 28 (the Gold River highway) across the road from the McIver Lake turnoff. Warm-ups are scheduled to get underway about 9 a.m. with racing starting right after. Races will go rain or shine, preferably under clear, warm skies, but rain will not stop the enthusiastic riders as many have been away from the sport since last fall and are eager to get back at the sport they love.

Several racers have moved up in the classes and are looking forward to the start of the Spring Series – riders such as William Blackburn of Courtenay, Brendan Fear of Campbell River and Blaine Morrow of Black Creek. All three have been competing for several years and after a great 2010 season are looking forward to this year.

Jake Thompson will also be returning to the track after suffering an injury last fall. Thompson will be moving up to the Junior class this year. Also on hand for the opening round will be Pro rider Colton McLean of Courtenay who has just returned to the area from Manitoba.

There will be several classes of riders for spectators to cheer on both days. There will be 50cc riders aged 4-8 and riders right up to the 40 Plus class as well as the Ladies class with local riders Lindsey McLean of Campbell River who took home first over all in the Fall Series as well Chelsea Masters of Campbell River who finished the Spring Series for 2010 in third place overall.

As well as all the local riders there will be riders from all across Vancouver Island and some will be catching ferries to compete. “So come on out and cheer the riders on and watch the toughest sport on two wheels,” an event spokesperson said.

There will also be Beginner Classes for anyone who would like to try the sport of motocross. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. for people who would like to race. Sign-up for racing starts at 7 a.m. at the tower.

Advance tickets can be picked up at Boardwalk on Shoppers Row in Campbell River or at the gate on race days.
