Special to the Record
Mark April 13-14 on your calendars if you love watching motocross racing in person. It is the official opening round of the 2013 VIMX/CMRC Island Series being hosted by the Campbell River Motocross Association.
It starts with a practice day Saturday for all who wish to get a little seat time in before the series starts on Sunday morning. There will be riders from the North Island the South Island and all points in between. You will see riders from Powell River and Saltspring Island as well.
There will be local riders Ryder Roth (who went undefeated in his class while racing the local track doing the summer evening series in 2012) Kurt Kolhoffer, Jake Thompson and Michael Masters.
This should be a great opening round as it has been six months since motocross racing has been taken place on the Island. The local track has seen some great improvements done to it since racing was last here. It is one of the most challenging tracks with its table tops and overpass jumps. It has some challenging sandy corners that lead right into some table tops.
As well, motocross racing is one of the most physically challenging sports. You have to be in really good shape to do the sport. It is not easy throwing these motorcycles around in some of the corners and jumps on a motocross track.
So if you want to see some high-flying tail whipping, burm-railing action. come up to the Campbell River motocross track and see what makes these riders tick. They are all charged up and ready to roar out of the start gate.
Full-throttle race action should get started around 10 a.m. and will wrap up sometime in the late afternoon. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and kids six to 11. Kids under six are free. Advance tickets available at Boardwalk on Shoppers Row.
The local race track is located on the Gold River Highway across from the McIver Lake turn off. The event will go rain or shine.
