For the first time in school history, the W.J. Mouat Hawks sent a senior girls rugby team to the provincials and it turned out to be a trip to remember.
The Hawks went undefeated in the Tier 2 division to capture the provincial title at the B.C. Rugby high school girls provincial XV championships in Williams Lake over the weekend.
Mouat opened with a 66-7 win over Burnaby North, beat Alberni 75-17 on day two and clinched the championship with a 33-10 win over Fleetwood. It’s the first-ever girls rugby banner in school history for the Hawks.

The Falcons got tries from: Lucie Romeo (four), Betsabe Flores (two), Jessica Colbert (two), Jordyn Witter and Alyssa Chapman. Successful converts were made by Sophia Petrie (three) and Colbert. Romeo was named player of the game for her efforts.
The rugby action continues all week long, with the B.C. high school rugby boys provincials running from May 30 to June 2 at Abbotsford’s Exhibition Park.

Today also features the first playoff games for the Mouat Hawks, Yale Lions and Bateman Timberwolves senior boys teams. Mouat battles Nanaimo at 9 a.m., Yale takes on West Vancouver at 11 a.m. and Bateman opens against Claremont at 4 p.m.
The Lions and Timberwolves are competing in the AAA Tier 1 conference, while the Hawks are battling for AAA Tier 2 glory.
