Mount Washington Alpine Resort elevates sightseeing to new levels as the resort kicks off another summer season with scenic chair rides, festivals, events and the reopening of the Bike Park.
Mount Washington has been named one of Canada’s most magnificent views, so many locals like to show off the scene from the top of the mountain to family and visiting friends.
“The view from the top of the mountain is second to none,” explained Don Sharpe, Director of Business Operations. “And, we have lots of things to do, so it’s easy to spend the afternoon in the alpine.”
The resort is now open for Mile High Scenic Chairlift Rides and Ted’s Summer Grill is open longer hours every day. Chairlift Rides are not only visually spectacular; they’re comfortable, safe and affordable.
Rides to the top of the mountain in the Eagle Chair are $19 per person and only $14 for seniors aged 65 and up. Kids five and younger are free. The chair operates daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting).
Once you have unloaded at the top you will find views of the Comox Valley, Campbell River, the Georgia Strait, and the Coastal Range in one direction, and views of the Beaufort Range that runs up the middle of the Island and includes the peaks of Albert Edwards in the other direction.
In addition to hiking and sightseeing, Mount Washington offers a range of family activities and on-mountain dining. There will be a new 4-in-1 Bungy Trampoline, and along with the new tramp there is mini golf, disc golf, giant chess, and a playground for the kids as well as a pleasant courtyard to enjoy the spectacular mountain vistas.
Special events of note include the popular Tapped Beer Festival July 15 and the Alpine Wine Festival on Aug. 12. Family events include the Scavenger Hunt on July 16 and the Inukshuk Building contest on the August Civic Holiday weekend.
Lift-accessed mountain biking is returning to the resort this summer. The trail crew has been working steadily throughout the spring towards an anticipated mid-July opening. Bike Park passes are now on sale. More information about the Bike Park will be made available online at www.mountwashington.ca
