Mustangs brush back Cougars

Watkin Motor Mustangs cage Prince George Cougars 8-3 for first Pee Wee Tier 1 league win of the season.

The Vernon Watkin Motors Mustangs started the New Year off in style, pummelling the Prince George Cougars 8-3 for their first Pee Wee Tier 1 hockey league win of the season Friday night at Civic Arena.

Austin Caldwell led the ‘Stangs with two goals and a pair of helpers. Levi Danbrook and Connor Johnston, each with 1+2, Dylan Sedlacek and Mathew Kowalski, each a goal and an assist, and Owen Beliveau and Dean Whitcomb, both with singles, rounded out the offence.

Ethan King (2), Reed Cashato, Grady Caton and Powell Connor supplied assists in support of Shane Meadahl, who earned the win.

Centre Garrett Dansereau pulled the hat trick as the Nedco Titans grounded the Corbett Office Cowboys 6-3 in North Okanagan Super Midget Hockey League action Friday night at Civic Arena.

Gavin Banning (2) and Brodie Homeniuk also scored for the first-place Titans (12-1-1), who got two assists from Yanik Fillion-Murphy and solid netminding from Rodger Sewell and Zoran Bos.

Brett Mitchell (2) and Mitchell Lukacs, with a roof-daddy shot past Sewell after a gorgeous dangle in tight, replied for the Cowboys, who had one early goal disallowed.

Dustin Folliott pocketed a pair of helpers.

The Five Star Award Chiefs split a pair of Bantam Super League games last weekend, falling 2-1 to the host Winfield Bruins before stopping the Salmon Arm Chevy Bruins 6-2 at the Priest Valley Arena.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the second period, but the Chiefs replied with an end-to-end rush by d-Man Ryan Pelkey.

In their win, assistant captain Mac Gourdine opened the Chiefs’ scoring with assists from Craig Lawrence and Donte Nowell.

The lone goal in the second period came from Pelkey, assisted by goalie Trey Spanier.

The Chiefs exploded in the third period with goals from Lucas Williams, Craig Lawrence, Pelkey and Cameron Hitch. Assistant captain Brennan Seltzer added a pair of helpers.
