A Nanaimo athlete got to take to the diamond in a city well-known for women’s baseball.
Isabella Bortolotto played in the Baseball for All girls’ baseball tournament earlier this month in Rockford, Ill.
She joined the L.A. Monarchs team for the tournament and was the only Canadian on that squad. In her final game of the tourney, a 9-8 win over the New York Wonders, Bortolotto had two hits.
This past spring, Bortolotto was one of four Canadians selected by Major League Baseball to attend the U17 girls’ baseball Breakthrough Series from June 14-18 in Vero Beach, Fla.
