Four Nanaimo athletes reached the finish line at triathlon’s toughest test.
Shawn Boyd, Katy Condon, Helmut Mark and Lorri Jongeneel all finished the Subaru Ironman Canada triathlon in Penticton on Sunday.
The race consists of a 3.8-kilometre swim, a 180km cycling course and then a 42.2km marathon.
Boyd was the first local to finish, posting a time of 10 hours, 49 minutes, 34 seconds to place 259th overall. Condon’s time was 12:50:21.
Matthew Russell of Scottsdale, Ariz., won the race in 8:48:30 and the top female was Vancouver’s Gillian Clayton who finished in 9:46:07.
