The Nanaimo Buccaneers were winners against the top team in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.
The Bucs doubled up the Victoria Cougars by a 4-2 score on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
The visitors tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period, but Lucas Patton scored the go-ahead goal two and a half minutes later and the Bucs made it stand up.
Josh Zary had a goal and two assists and Riley Gannon and Billy Walters were other scorers for Nanaimo. Goaltender Austin Dendl was chosen player of the game after a 28-save effort as shots ended up 33-30 in favour of Nanaimo.
GAME ON … The Buccaneers host the Saanich Braves on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC. The Bucs then visit the Campbell River Storm on Sunday up Island.
