Nanaimo golfer wins junior major

Nanaimo’s Zach Anderson placed first at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship on the weekend in Swift Current, Sask.

Nanaimo’s Zach Anderson won one of the majors on the junior boys’ golf circuit.

The 16-year-old placed first at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship on the weekend, carding a 66 Sunday at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club in Swift Current, Sask.

He shot rounds of 68 then 74 leading up to the final round.

“I didn’t have the best day yesterday so I had to play really hard to come back,” said Anderson in a Golf Canada press release.

Anderson’s 66 included an eagle, four birdies and one double-bogey.

The Prairie title gives him a berth in nationals in Garson, Ont. at the end of July.

“I just plan on practising a lot, working with my coach, and just grinding it out until the championship,” he said.
