Nanaimo gymnasts are getting a chance to show off their routines to the world.

A contingent of athletes from Wayland Sports is in Dornbirn, Austria, this week, July 7-13, participating in the World Gymnaestrada gymnastics festival.

“They’ll be performing several times indoor and outdoor…” said Mary Morice, general manager of Wayland Sports Nanaimo. “It’s a mix of artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatic.”

The team, made up of girls and women aged 9-19, qualified last year at nationals at the Richmond Oval.

“The group has been working hard … fundraised and made it happen,” Morice said.

Wayland Sports Ltd. is a company with seven B.C. locations. The programming in Nanaimo is mainly artistic gymnastics with some acrobatics and parkour. Visit www.waylandsports.com.
