Nanaimo’s all-star football players made an impact

Barsby's Zach Taylor chosen Defensive Player of the Year

Nanaimo’s two varsity football programs both had seasons that extended into the playoffs, and some star players helped lead to that success.

B.C. High School Football announced its all-stars in late November and a handful of Nanaimo athletes were recognized, according to VarsityLetters.ca.

Zach Taylor of the John Barsby Bulldogs was selected as Defensive Player for the Year. Taylor, an ironman who also played running back, was recognized for his work at the linebacker position.

Offensive lineman Tyler Chalmers, receiver Steen Rasmussen, defensive lineman Kaden Brown, linebacker Cameron Wright and defensive back Ricardo Zavala-Torres were also chosen AA provincial all-stars.

In the AAA division, Nanaimo District Islanders linebacker Finn Bradbrooke was a provincial all-star.
