Nanoose Bay golfer Shelly Stouffer won her second consecutive B.C. Senior Women’s Golf Championship, working overtime to bring the trophy home again.
Stouffer looked headed for another easy victory, much like she did last year when she won by 12 strokes in her senior debut. She was ahead by eight strokes but lost grasp of the lead late in the final round on July 23 at the Revelstoke Golf Club.
The defending champion rallied to birdie the last two holes to force a playoff against six-time champion Jackie Little, who previously owned The Hollies Executive Golf Course in Port Alberni. On the first extra hole, Stouffer was able to steady herself and sank another birdie to clinch the title.

“We went to No. 1 for the playoff and I had made that double there this morning,” Stouffer told Brad Ziemer of B.C. Golf. “I went first and bombed a drive and ended up knocking in a 25-footer for birdie. So I finished with three straight birdies, which was good.”
Both the 51-year-old Stouffer (75-76-84) and 63-year-old Little (79-80-76), who now lives in Procter, finished the 54-hole tournament at 10-over par 235. Sandra Turbide of Maple Ridge finished third at 13-over 238.
Parksville golfer Josee Deslauriers was tied for seventh place at 252. She placed third in the super senior championships behind eventual winner Little and second-place finisher Alison Murdoch of Victoria.
Stouffer plans to play in the Canadian Senior Women’s Championship, Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in Bromont, Que.
