Pitt Meadows’ Brandon Yip is a Nashville Predator after being claimed off waivers Thursday.
Yip has been a member of the Colorado Avalanche for the past three seasons, amassing 41 points in 117 games with the NHL club.
Yip has struggled with groin and arm injuries this season, playing just 10 games, and failing to register a single point.
The Predators picked up the 26-year-old forward off the waiver wire after 19 other teams passed on Yip.
Yip was drafted by Colorado in the eighth round (239th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft, and is on a one-way contract worth $750,000.
There will be some familiar faces in the Predators’ organization
Predators forward Colin Wilson was a teammate of Yip’s at Boston University where they won the 2009 NCAA national championship.
Maple Ridge’s Victor Bartley is also a member of the Predators organization. Bartley signed with Nashville in the off-season, and leads the Milwaukee Admirals, the NHL club’s farm team, in scoring for defencemen with 21 points in 37 games.
