The four national teams competing at the 2104 Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship will begin play today at Softball City.
While the Women’s tournament got underway over the weekend with the Bloomington Lady Hearts, NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Assocaition) All-Stars and White Rock Renegades on the diamond, the national teams of Japan, Mexico, the United States and Canada were wrapping up an international event in Irvine, California.
Team Canada fell 5-2 to the U.S.A. in the championship game of the World Cup of Softball IX Sunday morning.
Canada was 5-1 in the round robin, their only loss a 5-3 defeat against the U.S.A.
Japan placed fourth in the seven-team event, while Mexico placed sixth.
Canada will play their first game at the Canadian Open tonight at 8:30 p.m. against Basque Country (Spain).
Team U.S.A. will play twice today, first against the Lady Hearts at 3:30 p.m. then again at 6:30 p.m. against Japan, the defending Canadian Open champions.
Mexico’s first game is also at 3:30 p.m. They will play the host White Rock Renegades.
White Rock has dropped their first two games of the tournament, falling 3-1 to Bloomington on Saturday before a 14-2 loss to the NJCAA All-Stars Sunday evening.
Bloomington won their second game Monday night, doubling the NJCAA team, 4-2.
