Nedohin claims Prestige Curling Classic crown

Heather Nedohin of Edmonton pocketed $9,000 by winning the Prestige Hotels Curling Classic Sunday in Vernon.

Heather Nedohin of Edmonton iced Anna Sidorova of Moscow 8-2 in Sunday’s women’s final of the $65,000 Prestige Hotels Curling Classic at the Vernon Curling Club.

Nedohin, 37, is backed by third Beth Iskiw and a front end of Jessica Mair and Laine Peters. The current Canadian champions put up three points in the third and fifth ends to stop the Russians. Nedohin pocketed $9,000, while Sidorova earned $6,500.

Nedohin took the tourist route to the finals, winning eight of 10 games after losing preliminary games to former teammate Kristie Moore of Calgary and Valerie Sweeting of Edmonton. Nedohin brushed back Renee Sonenberg of Grande Prairie 6-4, while Sidorova toppled Shannon Kleibrink of Calgary 6-4 in Sunday’s semifinals.

Kleibrink, who won the classic last year and in 2008, and Sonneberg each collected $5,000.

There was a field of 32 rinks. The men’s final goes today at 3 p.m. There are 16 men’s foursomes.
