The Nelson Junior Leafs wrapped up their training camp weekend on Sunday morning with 28 hopefuls still battling for a spot.
Camp opened on Friday afternoon with 45 players reporting. Over the weekend head coach Frank Maida and his staff ran the crew through drills and games at the Nelson and District Community Complex.
After Sunday morning’s inter-squad game, Maida met with players and cut the roster down to 28. The Leafs will now have a pair of exhibition games with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks (Tuesday in Nelson and Wednesday in Fruitvale) where the staff will get a better understanding of which players have what it takes to play in the Kootenay Junior International Hockey League this season.
