Mario DiBella will remain head coach of the Nelson Leafs next season.
The team announced Monday that DiBella has signed an extension through the 2020-21 season.
“This commitment is an indication of the strong support that the board of directors hold for Coach DiBella, and his experienced and committed staff for the consistently successful seasons the Leafs have enjoyed under his leadership,” the Leafs stated in a release.
DiBella is in his second tenure as Leafs coach after previously leading the team from 2000 to 2002.
He returned to the team in December 2015, and has since led the Leafs to two Neil Murdoch Division titles. His best playoff run during that time has been to the Kootenay Conference final in 2018.
DiBella previously played goaltender for the Nelson Junior Maple Leafs in 1976-77, as well as for the senior Maple Leafs during the 1977-78 and 1981-85 seasons.
