New coach seeks recruits

Columbia Bible College’s (CBC) new men’s basketball head coach Matthew Boulton has his work cut out for him.

To the best of his knowledge — he’s only days into the job — just four players, maybe five, will be returning to the lineup.

The Bearcats are holding I.D. camps June 27-28. Email mbball@columbiabc.edu for more details.

“The hard thing is recruiting,” he says.

Boulton said it can be a challengeto find players to match the academic programs at CBC, whose courses range from biblical studies to outdoor leadership and caregiving — not the typical run-of-the-mill programs.

Seven others have committed to trying out for the Bearcats for next year, a group which includes Abbotsford hopefuls Greg and Mitch Krahn out of Mennonite Educational Institute as well as a couple of national junior college players from the U.S.

Boulton says the plan is to have a full roster come the first week of August, leaving a couple months to prepare for the start of the Pacwest season in late October.
