Bike everywhere.
That’s what “GoByBike Oceanside” is encouraging people to do this fall.
Instead of just celebrating “biking to work or school,” Island Health, the BC Cycling Community and BikeToWork Society have collaborated with this new initiative encouraging people in Vancouver to bike from visiting friends, going for coffee, to the shop, the library or just for the fun of it.
The new initiative wants to promote cycling as a great form of transportation, recreation and something so easy to do.
“GoByBike Oceanside is a community event that celebrates active and fun ways to get around. You don’t need fancy clothes or an expensive bike, to participate, but it is important to be visible and safe,” said Leo Boon if GoByBike Oceanside.
As an added incentive to participate, anyone who registers at www.gobybikebc.ca/oceanside and logs at least one trip during the weeks of October 15-29 will be eligible for some great local prizes such as one of three brand new bikes, an assortment of bicycle gear and clothing and for the grand prize – an airfare-included trip for two to Italy.
New registrants are also entered into a prize draw for a $250 gift card to the shop of their choice; and the team leader of this prize winner’s team will automatically win the same prize.
Anytime someone in Nanoose, Errington, Qualicum Bay, Bowser, Parksville, French Creek or Qualicum Beach use their bike for transportation or recreation, it counts during the GoByBike Weeks. This includes trips to the store, the library, coffee shop or visiting friends, so make sure you log every trip.
Registration is free so sign up today and look for updates at http://www.gobybikebc.ca/oceanside
