Langley falls short to Salmonbellies in junior A lacrosse action

The New Westminster Junior Salmonbellies scored the only two goals of the 10-minute overtime period as they edged the Langley Junior Thunder 9-7.

The two junior A lacrosse rivals squared off on June 13 at the Langley Events Centre.

After a low-scoring first period — New Westminster led 2-1 — the teams exploded for four goals apiece in the middle frame. And the third period saw the ’Bellies score once while Brett Dobray potted a pair for Langley to tie things up and force the extra period.

Dobray also finished with an assist for a three-point night while Johnny Pearson notched a pair of goals.

Nathan Henare and James Rahe each scored once and set up one other and Nick Stone had the Thunder’s other goal.

Spencer England made 32 saves in the defeat.

Langley outshot New Westminster 46-41.

The loss drops the Thunder to 7-5 and fifth place in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League.

Up next for Langley is a game at Burnaby’s Bill Copeland Arena on June 16.
