Max Newton had two goals and two assists to lead the Grand Forks Border Bruins over the visiting Castlegar Rebels 4-2 on Sunday.

Lincoln Lane also had another strong outing for the home team with a goal and two helpers. On Saturday, Lane scored the winning goal over Spokane.

Also scoring for GF was Kyle Doak.

Scoring for Castlegar, who outshot the Bruins 52-42, were Dylan Ofner, Diego Bartlett and Linden Calliou.

Jacob Mullen was solid between the pipes for the Bruins stopping 49 of 52 Castlegar shots.

The game was the third in 43 hours for the Bruins who went 2-1 to start the season. The wins put Grand Forks in first place in the Neil Murdoch division after the first weekend, one point ahead of Nelson.

Newton leads the KIJHL in scoring with nine points on three goals and six assists in three games.

Next up for the Bears is a North Okanagan road trip next weekend with games in Chase (Friday), Sicamous (Sat) and Revelstoke (Sun).
