NHLers to mingle at Sicamous golf tourney

Shuswap NHL stars Shea Weber and Cody Franson have announced that the first annual Sicamous Shootout Charity Golf Tournament will be July 13

Shuswap NHL stars Shea Weber and Cody Franson have announced that the first annual Sicamous Shootout Charity Golf Tournament to raise money for the BC Cancer Foundation will be held on July 13 at the Hyde Mountain Resort Course in Sicamous.

Weber and Franson say they will be joined by many of their NHL colleagues to raise money to fight cancer.

Weber says he has been touched by the support of his fellow players.

“Cody and I have discussed doing this for some time and we are excited to get a group of good guys together for such a great cause. I know the community will rally around this event to make it a success and I am really looking forward to showcasing my hometown.”

Franson says both he and Weber have put a lot into making this year’s tournament a success and that it has been a very rewarding experience.

“We had two criteria when we started out. We wanted to make it a fun experience where people could interact with NHL players but we didn’t want to lose sight of the need to raise money for the cancer foundation. That is why Shea and I have worked so hard to find great auction items and have really encouraged the Okanagan business community to get behind this.”

While Shea and Cody would love to see as many golfers participate as possible, they will continue to fundraise up until the event. Weber says he is committed to working flat out over the next six weeks to make this happen.

“Golf spots are going fast but we still have a need for sponsorships and donations. I encourage everyone who can to make a donation because cancer seems to touch almost every Canadian in some way.”
