Revelstoke resident and former Olympian Nikki Norrie won two gold medals at the Nordic skiing Masters World Cup at the Sparkling Hills club in Vernon this week.
Racing against women aged 35-39, Norrie, who competed in the biathlon at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, finished first in the 10 kilometre free technique race on Monday and was on the winning Canadian team in the 4×5 km relay on Wednesday.
She also finished fourth in the 15 km free technique race in the age 35-39 category on Saturday – only four seconds out of a silver medal.
“What we also find fascinating is her adjustment from the race circuit in biathlon whereby the laps are interrupted with shooting,” wrote Sally Thomson of the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club in an e-mail. “Nikki has had to learn how to race an event that is continuous endurance using a different approach and obviously she wired that well!”
The Masters World Cup is an international cross-country skiing race for competitors over the age of 30. The Times Review will provide full coverage of Revelstoke’s participation in the event in our Mar. 16 issue.
