Mt. Timothy Ski Area opened Dec. 10.
The opening was on schedule and with enough snow to satisfy anxious skiers and boarders who have been waiting since last March to shred again on the local slopes.
Hill general manager Adam Piccolo says they sold 71 lift tickets on opening day, which met expectations and was “about average.”
He adds people were happy about the snow conditions, which saw 55 centimetres of packed powder at mid-mountain.
Piccolo says he was encouraged, knowing that the hill opened without the addition of artificially made snow this year and he anticipates a good season. Currently, the mid-mountain depth measures 85 cm, which is above average.
As of Dec. 20, 18 out of 35 runs were open, including everything between Big Easy and Back Door. Piccolo says they’re currently working on a terrain park and are taking suggestions on their Facebook site as to what people would like to see and where they’d like to see it.
“We want to build some jumps, and Facebook is a good way to hear the voice of the people.”
The hill is open every day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until Jan 2, with the exception of a closure on Christmas Day (Dec. 25).
Starting Jan. 6, days of operation are Friday to Monday.
Beginning Jan. 26, the hill is open Thursday through Monday each week.
That remains unchanged until mid-March when it will be open from March 14-19; March 21-26; and March 31.
Operation in April will be subject to snow conditions.
