Cross-country skiers are in for a treat once the snow falls.
The Nelson Nordic Ski Club underwent large infrastructure improvements during the summer with replacements made to bridge decks and bank stabilization.
These bridges have served the club well for many years and since the trails are located amidst scenic waterways and bogs it was time to have them inspected.
Hiring an engineering firm to assess their condition was the initial task, and the club acted on the suggested improvements.
The club executive spent endless hours applying for possible grants that could assist them with the cost of such a project and in time they received $15,350 from Columbia Basin Trust, $5,000 from Recreation Sites and Trails B.C., $2,000 from the Regional District of Central Kootenay’s Area E as well as $1,000 from Area G as the ski trails are located within both electoral areas.
These improvements to their infrastructure could not have been completed without the excellent work ethic of the hired contractor along with generous donations from local government, organizations and businesses.
Also on the Nordic calendar is the ski swap fundraiser on November 5 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Nelson Rod and Gun Club.
Get your skis waxed for $10, which will help fund the Nelson Nordic Track Attack and Junior Racers program.
