You already know you’re an amazing croquet player — now’s your chance to prove it.
North Island College tourism and hospitality students are organizing the first-ever NIC Croquet Tournament, set to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Park @ Crown Isle on Saturday, Feb. 29.
This family-friendly event is for players age eight and older and will feature prizes, pizza and snacks, a live DJ and a day of no-holds-barred fun.
Croquet is a court-based game where players compete to be the first to hit their ball through a series of small metal hoops in the right order. But devious rivals can use their ball to knock yours off course – and vice-versa.
“We expect the competition to be fierce,” said Glenn Baron, NIC tourism instructor and event co-ordinator. “But above all, this is going to be a fun afternoon and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone there.”
The winner of the tournament will walk away with a $200 cash prize, while the second-place winner will receive dinner for four at NIC’s sold-out pop-up restaurant, NIC at the Park @ Crown Isle.
The third-place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate. Various other prizes will be available throughout the event.
Tickets will be sold in order of start time and are available by visiting https://squareup.com/store/north-island-college/
Tickets cost $35 if purchased by Feb. 19 and $45 after Feb. 19. Ticket sales close on Feb. 26.
Players will receive an email with their start time prior to the event.
Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting tourism and hospitality programming at NIC. For more information, contact glenn.baron@nic.bc.ca.
