The North Langley Giants brought home some hardware over the weekend at the Bill Hyde Memorial Mosquito Tournament in Port Coquitlam, topping the other seven teams registered.
On Thursday, they beat the PoCo Royals 7-4, with the game MVP going to pitcher Hyunseo (Justin) Choi.
On Saturday, Giants recorded victories over the PoCo Panthers (15-5) and North Shore Titans (11-2) for a 3-0 group record. Player of the game honours went to Linden Waugh and Noah Simpson.
Sunday morning, the Giants took on North Langley Thunder.
Pitching by Kaden Booth, Hyunseo (Justin) Choi, Liam Burt and Noah Simpson as well as timely hitting put the Giants on top 10-6.
Coach Ron Dorland said “amazing defensive plays” by Keaton Thorne and Kaden Booth and four RBI’s by Liam Burt, who took home player of the game honours were what made the difference.
In the Sunday afternoon (May 12) final, the Giants took on the North Shore Dodgers.
It was a matchup between the top team in Group A and the top team in Group B, with both undefeated going into the final.
Giants won by the same score line as the semi-final, winning 10-6.
Pitcher Cole Dorland went four strong innings, striking out seven and collecting the win.
Liam Burt closed out the game, striking out the side in the sixth and collecting the save.
Cole Dorland collected the finals player of the game honour.
