Several North Langley Minor Football teams were in action last weekend.
Bantam Bears
The bantam Bears improved to 4-0 on the season with a big 32-0 win over the host North Delta Longhorns last Sunday.
The Bears capped off an early drive with a passing touchdown, as quarterback Isaiah Key connected with receiver Michael Huggans.
This gave the Bears a lead they never relenquished.
A long punt by the Bears kicker, David Wegert pinned the Longhorns deep, which led to a safety by the Bears’ defence.
On the ensuing kickoff by the Longhorns, Bears returner, Ethan Bernardin gathered the ball at his own 25 yard line and ran it back for an 85 yard touchdown.
Bears fullback Nicholas Butler had a solid game, and ran in for a score late in the first half.
The Bears’ offence scored again in the second half on another pass play from quarterback, Isaiah Key, this time to wideout, Alex Ronald on a great catch just over the outstretched arms of the Longhorns’ defender.
The drive was capped by a 30-yard field goal from Wegert, who had another solid outing for the Bears.
The Bears’ defence had another great day with solid play and huge tackles from Ethan Croome, Kevin Morrison, Taylor Fleming, Kurtis Flynn, Jacob Ronald, Ronil Chand, and a big fumble recovery by Parker Roberton late in the first half.
The Bears play the Longhorns in a rematch at McLeod Stadium this Saturday (Oct. 1) at 3:30 p.m.
Peewee Bears
The Bears clipped the wings of Abbotsford Black Falcons, blanking the hosts 46-0 last weekend.
The offense scored early and often in this one, with some great passes from quarterback Owen Sieben and major yards gained on the ground from the running backs.

The North Langley defence – which has yet to give up a point this season – dominated again with Kayden Bell and Vaughn Pinchin both recording interceptions in the game.
There were also big stops comming from Rocco Langford, Kai Robinson, Joshua Hamelin, and Aiden McMurty.
With the win, the peewee Bears ran their record to 4-0 on the season, and host rival Abbotsford White this weekend at home in a battle of two undefeated teams.
Atom Bears
The Bears were in tough last Saturday, going on the road to face the 3-0 Abbotsford Falcons.
The Falcons remain undefeated after shutting out the Bears 38-0 at Abbotsford’s Rotary Stadium.
An unfortunate turnover allowed the Falcons to score first.
The Falcons tried to establish a passing game early, but strong coverage in the defensive backfield by Colton Matheson, Vaan Stewart, Caden Martin, and Evan Zhao initially held Abbotsford at bay.
After a few more scores by the Falcons in the half, the Bears were not clicking on offence.
Langley was working hard but just couldn’t get anything going. T
hings were looking positive near the end of the half, but then Samuel Sieben broke free for a huge kick off return, sprung by a big block from Kyler Duffill.
When the first half came to an end, the Bears trailed 22-0.
The visitors came out in the second half determined to shake things up.
Langley’s strategy was to work from the shotgun to give quarterback Benjamin Evans some more time in the pocket.
The strategy looked good early with a nice catch-and-run for 20 yards by Damon Bernemann.
Langley looked much better in the second half, with Hunter Dickson providing some key blocks
As well, the Bears’ defence was working hard to slow down a potent Abbotsford team.
North Langley’s Roman Langford had a strong half, but in the end it wasn’t Langley’s day.
The Bears will look to rebound this weekend, when they face the Abbotsford’s other team at McLeod Athletic Park.
