North Okanagan Knights stumble in Osoyoos

North Okanagan Knights fall 10-2 to Osoyoos Coyotes in KIJHL action Friday at the Sun Bowl.

The North Okanagan Knights kept pace for a period, but after that, it was all Osoyoos Coyotes.

Leading 3-2 after 20 minutes of Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Sun Bowl, the host ‘Yotes racked up seven unanswered goals to run away with a 10-2 win.

Half of the 4-4 Osoyoos offence came on the powerplay, which converted on 5-of-8 attempts to hand North Okanagan (5-1-0-1) its first regulation loss.

Rory Neary, with the hat trick, and Aaron Azevedo and Jackson DeMatos, each with a deuce, supplied the bulk of the firepower.

Colin Chmelka (4A), Troy Maclise (3A) and Bradley Williams rounded out the attack in front of netminder Lawrence Langan, who finished with 29 saves.

Zach Dyment recorded 41 stops for the Knights.

Ryan Kelm and Mat Lambert provided first-period snipes for the Knights, who played the fourth of a seven-game road schedule Saturday night against the Kelowna Chiefs (5-3).

The Knights lost forward Anthony Ruggiero early in the first period when he was ejected for a check from behind.

The Coyotes earned just one minor to North Okanagan’s eight.
