The Terrace Northmen Rugby Club is gearing up for Rugbyfest this weekend in Edmonton—especially following a heated home opener this past weekend.
Teams from Smithers, Prince Rupert and members of the Caledonia Bears high school squad came out for games at Northwest Community College on Saturday, May 11.
“It was a great turnout,” said Terrace Northmen Evan van Dyk. “The Northmen had a seniors side and a rookie side. Smithers, who are in the midst of rejuvenating their team, played awesome losing only to the Terrace Seniors.”
The Terrace Seniors went undefeated for the day, completely shutting out the competition and not allowing a single try against.
Now it’s off to Rugbyfest in Edmonton this upcoming weekend, where Terrace is hoping to place. Last year, the team won six in a row to get to the semi-finals, but dropped the last two to place fourth out of 23 teams.
