The 54th annual Qualicum Beach Ocean Mile Swim took place Sunday with Jared Abel taking first place again.
There where 44 competitors this year, which was roughly average, said Anne Porteous with the regional district.
She said attendance is somewhat weather dependent and with the clouds Sunday attendance was lower than last year’s 55 people or the 2003 record of 67, but was still pretty good this year.
Abel came in in a possible record time of 19:54, down from his 2009 winning time of 21:20.
In second place was Kelly Aspinall at 20:54 followed by the top female, Mercedes MacDougall and third overall at 23:26.
She was followed in by Haley Bennett in what Porteous described as a phenomenal 25:00 for an 11-year-old.
The oldest competitor was Gordon Reeves Webb at 67 and Reese Abel, at 10, was the youngest.
