Oceanside Youth Soccer Society is holding the annual Mini World Cup youth soccer tournament at the Qualicum Beach Community Field on May 4-5.
The tournament is held annually in the Upper Island Soccer region ages groups U8-U11. Organizers expect to host 96 teams in total, which will bring more than 2,500 players and spectators to the field.
The Oceanside club will enter all players in the U8-U11 age groups that are registered in Spring soccer. Teams will be determined in April.
The Town of Qualicum Beach has granted the society permission to stage the two-day event at the community field. To help with the organization of the event, the town have agreed to provide funding of $2,000 to offset the cost of portable washrooms and for promotional materials about local businesses and attractions, to be distributed by the Society to participants and spectators.
Council has also authorized in-kind support for the event through the town provision of garbage and recycling cans, bags, and collection; access to the Civic Centre for washrooms and the Windsor/OAP Room for use as a first aid station; and in-kind services of staff to assist on site.
The non-profit society is looking for sponsorship from within the community to be able to fund the event. The group relies on registration fees and community support to make it possible. Sponsorship could come in the form of financial contribution, services or materials required. In return for sponsorship there are opportunities to be featured on the 1,000-plus tournament shirts, branded on handout items, displays at the event, promotion through our social media and website, plus additional options.
